A Critical Mass

FEATURING DIXON, AME, HENRIK SCHWARZ

Berlins A CRITICAL MASS scored a contemporary and conceptional soundtrack for the classic silent movie “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” and are performing this live alongside the original movie. Ambient electronic music with influences from musique concrète and classical composition.

For each character of the film, A Critical Mass wrote a particular musical theme which essentially is based on the letters contained in the character’s name.
Thus, they created distinct scale – neither minor nor major – whose range shapes the entire music for the film.

The silent film “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”, shot in 1920, is considered a milestone in film history and directors like Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton, or Martin Scorsese emphasize the influence this film had on their own work.
